Freddy's Dead Deconstructed: What Went Wrong In The Final Nightmare
In the past, we usually spend our time on the show discussing what makes a classic or cult classic movie so worthy of the hype that we put on it. But in the case of this movie- It's not that simple. See, I don’t know many people who like this movie, and personally I don’t connect with it. In some cases, like our previous episode with Leprechaun in the hood- it can be so silly and campy that it’s entertaining in a “so bad it’s good” way- although I think that phrase has become very broad and now just seems to apply to any movie that sucks. In the case of Freddy’s Dead- I want to deconstruct why I think I don’t like it.

Remember The Crow: Stairway To Heaven?
Переглядів 4,1 тис.14 годин тому
Okay, I caught Stairway on the Sci-Fi channel a few times here and there during its initial run. It caught my interest, but it was never enough to start it from the beginning. What's interesting about this is that it's based on the 1994 movie adaptation, which was pulled from James O’Barr’s original comic. Mark Dacascos would be the one and only person ever to fill the role once held by Brandon...
Redefining Terror: Early 00s Horror That Stood Out

Compilation Video: Today, we're celebrating the late, great director Tobe Hooper, by looking at his underrated 2004 horror film Toolbox Murders, which features a chilling "coffin birth" scene that sets its unsettling tone. Shifting to another horror classic, Brittany Murphy's role in Cherry Falls stands out as a unique slasher where the killer targets virgins, unlike her well-known parts in Clu...
What Happened To House Of Wax?

Dark Castle Entertainment produced some interesting flicks back in the 2000s. From Ghost Ship to Gothika, they were hoping to bring back the fun of the old William Castle movies. But their biggest success came when they took on a Vincent Price classic and gave it their unique twist. From casting Paris Hilton to actual onset fires, you won't believe what happened to House of Wax. WATCH OR OWN TH...
The Running Man: Comparing Stephen King’s Novel & Arnold’s Classic
Переглядів 18 тис.23 години тому
Today's story, now associated with Stephen King, was originally released under his pseudonym, Richard Bachman, known for darker tales. With Edgar Wright set to create a new, more faithful adaptation, it’s timely to discuss this dystopian horror. Though a staple in Arnold Schwarzenegger's action-packed filmography from 1987 to 1991, it's not typically seen as a prime Stephen King adaptation. Whi...
The Exorcism Review: Possession Without Purpose
Переглядів 7 тис.23 години тому
Just last year, we saw the release of The Pope's Exorcist, and now, less than one year later, we've got Russell Crowe returning to the genre with a similar title. However, outside of being about possession and starring Russell Crowe, these films could not be more different. Announced 5 years ago, and even filmed prior to Pope's Exorcist, The Exorcism was hit with delay after delay. That's not o...
Hellraiser & Heavy Metal: Motorhead's Legendary Horror Collaboration

Various rockers have lent either their musical or acting talents to the movie world and horror in particular, including the likes of Ozzy Osbourne, Henry Rollins, and David Bowie. Why Bram Stoker's Dracula Is The Ultimate Vampire Movie

Vampires are timeless creatures in every sense of the word. Mythology stemming from the fear of the undead has consumed cultures around the globe for centuries-and these stories have been forever evolving and molding together to form our modern understanding of vampires. But one ageless and undying tale stands above the rest as the quintessential vampire tale: Bram Stoker’s Dracula. WATCH OR OW...
What Happened To The Bone Collector?

For every Se7en, there was a dud such as The Specialist, Entrapment or The Real McCoy. So, where does the Denzel Washington and Angelina Jolie thriller, The Bone Collector sit within this? By the time 1999 rolled around, was the genre in need of an adrenaline shot to re-ignite some tension and emotion from those classic examples, and was the pairing of Denzel and Angelina the actors to provide ...
What Makes The Nightmare On Elm Street "Trilogy" Unique?

Compilation Video: The original Nightmare on Elm Street trilogy stands out in the horror genre for its iconic villain, Freddy Krueger, who invades victims' dreams with his terrifying presence and dark humor. A Nightmare On Elm Street (2010) Is The Worst Remake Of All Time
Переглядів 69 тис.День тому
We've dredged through some truly awful dreck in this series but this may just be my most hated. Because to take a character and franchise as beloved as Freddy Krueger and Nightmare On Elm Street and mess it up to such a degree takes a level of "I hate money" that I didn't even think was possible. There was a lot that went wrong with this film, from a lead that didn't want to be there to a villa...

I'm high on mushrooms but even I can't believe he thought time travel made sense. After watching all of it I could only think of these words from Billy Madison. What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

On the other hand, shouldn't a review of Freddy's Dead leave you scratching your head in confusion and frustration, wondering what you just watched? Joblo has successfully recaptured that utter befuddlement we all felt when we first endured this cinematic masterpiece: "Wait, isn't Springwood somewhere in the Los Angeles area, not Ohio? And why do we need to jump ahead ten years? And if this is ten years from now, why is the movie choosing to date itself with references to current pop culture trends like the Power Glove and Twin Peaks instead of aiming to be more timeless?"

Dacascos was amazing in the role. Stewart and Gomes too. But the series was really hurt by the bad acting of almost every guest, the incredibly low budget and the attempt to make it too child friendly. I found the consept of snakes as the inverse of the crows different and somewhat interesting. But the literal cliff hanger at the end made me crave for more. The series isn't very rewatchable though nowadays. Mark Dacascos seems to be an amazing person too. When the series was still playing, I emailed him asking for an autograph from him and he literally snail mailed me an autograph halfway across the planet for free, I would love to see him return to the role

Ok I am not over-defending Freddys Dead, but I did work on it, so I have some perspectives that you might not. Like EVERY Elm Street movie, ( and I worked on 4 of them), it was extremely over-ambitious for the budget. They really wanted to do a 3D sequence for the finale, so that added a huge additional expense. New Line always had big fights with the MPAA to obtain an R rating, so this go-round they opted to up the comedy and downplay the gore and horror. There was one sequence with Stephen Root as the kookie guy in the school that was originally going to have a gruesome reveal where we see he had stapled his eyes open to stay awake.....that was cut for ratings and cost I think. The Freddy as the Wicked Witch thing was also originally going to be spoof of Indiana Jones with Freddy on a skeleton horse but that was also cut for budget reasons. I personally think Freddys make up looks poor in this one, but Robert England was getting pretty sick of the hours and hours in the make-up chair....this version cut the time for him way down. (I think Kevin Yeagers make up in Dream Warriors is the best) When I watch clips and stills from Freddys Dead I cringe at some of the work I personally did.....But other things look great, Tight budgets always force creatives to make compromises., but the sequences that work (Like Carlos' hearing aid death) still hold up well. Im just glad Freddy is NOT REALLY dead, with rumors of another re-boot floating. We shall see........

I like this channel, but what the hell are you talking about? There’s no time traveling movie and nobody gets sent back anywhere. The movie takes place 10 years from the time it came out which was 1991. John is not sent through portal, that hole that he leaves is him leaving the dreamworld and entering the real world. You might want to rethink keeping this one up…
